Those heading to Walt Disney World in Florida should bear in mind that it has updated the rule around walking while eating in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is prohibiting the consumption of food and drink while walking to ensure that visitors keep their masks on while on the move.
The theme park reopened in July, and the safety measures it has implemented include reducing capacity at the parks and temporarily suspending parades, fireworks and other events that draw crowds. Face coverings are required for all guests over two and cast members, except when dining or swimming. Guests are permitted to remove the face covering while actively eating or drinking, but the rule has been tightened to insist that they remain stationary while doing so. They must also maintain appropriate physical distancing by moving to a safe spot six feet from other guests.
Other measures include a reservation system for park entry, and temperature screenings for staff and visitors before entering the parks. Roaming "high-energy squads” enforce social distancing, visitors aren't able to meet and greet the Disney characters, and “high-touch” experiences such as makeover opportunities and playgrounds remain temporarily unavailable. Hand-sanitising stations are provided and “relaxation stations” have been installed in every Walt Disney World theme park. Once inside, guests can safely remove their masks and have a socially-distanced sit-down at the tables provided.
