Technology has brought some great things when it comes to experiential travel, and has rapidly reshaped the industry over the last few decades. One offering in California - a hotel robot that brings wine and other amenities directly to guests in their rooms - proves that travelers are still being wowed by new and clever creations. As well as being a fun feature to excite guests, the robot has taken on the role as an official ambassador for social distancing at the establishment.

Allowing for physical social distancing, Rosé is a three-foot robot that delivers everything from pillows and pet treats to towels and groceries at Hotel Trio Healdsburg. The robot has been entertaining guests of all ages since the Sonoma County hotel opened in 2018, but in March 2020 she transitioned to her new role to promote safety.

“For guests who prefer contactless deliveries, Rosé provides them with peace of mind as she can deliver items to their suite” said Scott Satterfield, General Manager of Hotel Trio. With many guests being more comfortable with a touchless experience, the robot can glide on elevators and make deliveries easily. When she arrives at a suite, the guest receives a call that the robot is waiting outside. According to the hotel, visitors are in awe when they see her digital eyes blinking and they hear the futuristic sci-fi sounds as she flashes a message that says she’s on a delivery. The robot is then sanitized after every delivery. A total of seven California hotels have introduced robot ambassadors that have the ability to deliver things.

“Guests are enamored by the robots. They go to the rooms independently, so some guests look in awe and film them on their cell phones. It's equally amazing how many guests take selfies next to the robots, whether that guest is 7 or 70 years old! Many just call down to the front desk to arrange for something to be delivered to their suite whether that be a pet treat for their dog or towels at 2am,” a representative of the hotels told Lonely Planet.

The hotel has also introduced a complimentary shopping service, where guests can fill out grocery lists that are delivered to the suites, all of which have full kitchens. More information on Hotel Trio Healdsburg is available at the official website.
