For 30 years, I've been traveling and trekking through the Himalayas, Central Asia and lands of the Silk Road, looking for the perfect combination of mountains, minarets and monasteries. En route, I've written Lonely Planet guides to Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal, Trekking in the Nepal Himalaya, Central Asia, Sri Lanka, India and many more. A degree in Chinese led me to China for many years, while living in Montana for 15 years helped me write the Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks book. Favourite place: Tibet. Favourite city: Bukhara. Favourite region: Hunza, Pakistan. Current home: split between southern Chile and the UK.
