About Monica
Born and raised in Romania, I became a New Yorker while studying and living close to a decade in NYC before returning to Europe, via a three-year interlude in France. Most drawn to a destination’s culture, gripping design and architecture, I fully relax when beaches and nature jaunts are involved. Local food and drinks are a big reason for my love of travel – and as long as fresh oysters and bubbly are nearby – it’s a hit with me. Having traveled to over 50 countries, some favourites remain. My first love, Spain, and the Mediterranean countries overall, Cuba, South Africa, Morocco and recently, Brazil. I’ve been freelance writing for Lonely Planet since 2016.
