About Sophie
Sophie spends as much time as possible on the road less travelled: she studied Hindi for a year in Rajasthan, drove an auto-rickshaw from India to Kyrgyzstan, has led three expeditions to Afghanistan, and wrote the first guidebook to newly independent South Sudan. She's passionate about emerging destinations and post-conflict zones, in particular in South and Central Asia where she consults on development issues for national governments and the World Bank. Since 2021 she's been Chairman of the Royal Society for Asian Affairs, and she's currently planning a source-to-sea expedition along the Amu Darya.
